FITNESS & CONDITIONING

(If you're interested in Fitness, we strongly recommend you also try to get to the Nutrition/Hydration too. See below.)

Wednesday 11 June 2008, 6:30pm - 9:00pm at Jordanstown

Have you ever wondered what is meant by the term 'fitness'?

We'll identify the specific fitness needs for your sport and help you understand the key differences, for example;

  • Distance running v’s sprinting
  • Power v’s endurance
  • Speed v’s agility

Explanations of common terms and how they relate to you;

  • Interval Training
  • SAQ - speed, agility, quickness
  • Aerobic & anaerobic fitness

Weights & Strength Training

  • Correct techniques
  • Potential conflicts - strength V's speed
  • Sets/Reps - how many?

Pre-season/mid-season training ideas. What sort of training should be done when?

Confirmed presenters for this workshop:

  • William Moore (UU)
  • Phil Moreland (SINI)
  • Jonny Bloomfield (SINI)

... plus Q&A Contributors

  • Martin Woods (Ulster Squash)
  • Neil Doak (Ulster Rugby)

Nutrition/Hydration workshop goes hand in hand with Fitness & Conditioning.

This isn't to try to turn you into a salad-eating skinny. Nutrition & Hydration can have a significant impact on performance, and particularly on extracting the maximum benefit from whatever fitness training you do. This is significantly underestimated by many people, at all levels.

If you are registering for Fitness, we would strongly recommend you also try to get to the Nutrition/Hydration Workshop.

There will be plenty of time at the end of the workshop for
Q & A with the experts. So you can ask the questions that are important to you and your sport!

Note: If you have specific question you would like to have addressed, please go to our forums, where we have sections set up specifically for these areas. Ask your question there and we will try to cover it within the presentations, or in the Questions & Answers session at the end.

RegistrationFree Registration

Admission if FREE but there are a limited number of spaces available. Your place will be confirmed by email, but this may not be until a day or two before each workshop. You should probably plan on the assumption that we will be able to accommodate everyone. If we can't, we'll notify you as soon as possible. Please ring us for confirmation if you are trying to plan something else and need to know for sure, but haven't yet received an email.
