I cant get the Installatron to work. PLease help. I keep getting the following message.
An error has occured. Please check Installatron's error_log.Error: No USER found to run this session as.
Now its not like I actually knew what the installatron did, but I'm sure that I could have worked it out eventually

Actually I do know what the problem is. Since we put the new firewall in and had to change the IP address for the server we also had to update the software licences, which are all assigned to an IP address to prevent copying.
We've updated the Control Panel and sitebuilder licences but forgot about Installatron. I'll get that done early next week. I'd hate you to miss out on all the fun of Installatron.
Installatron is a collection of applications that can be installed on your site in a few clicks. They're all free applications but manual installation can be a bit of a pain, so Installatron makes it easy.
tbh I'm not 100% convinced about it's merits. It works well ok but some of the applications are either ...
a) not great to use
b) hard to manage
c) can leave holes that hackers can exploit
c) is the one that worries me a bit. Because the applications are free it's hard to be sure how well written they are. They mostly work well enough but some are a few years old, and the rate at which hacking has advanced means they aren't very secure. I was hoping to get time over the weekend for some pencil sucking about this, to decide if I should enable it again.
I know a couple of the sites have used it to install Joomla. This is a pretty impressive product (though a bit of a handful for beginners) but there have been some definite security worries with it. Not so much the core product but there are a lot of add-ons available for it, and some of those are very open to hacks.
ok, sorry you asked now? :spam:

I found the installatron a little tricky at first, but I think I was able to get the hang of it before all the problems started.
The Forum I got off it was a very handy tool.

I've seen joomla mentioned a few times on the forums. What the heck is it? Do I want it? Will I need it? Where can I get it? And most importantly will my life experience be added to or lessened by its use? It sounds impressive but what does it do?

You'll get the idea HERE (http://www.joomla.org/).
Some pluses, some minuses. Very flexible website structure but I am worried about the security of it. The first hacker attack definately got in through Joomla. We aren't sure about the second - maybe Joomla, more likely Direct Admin. If it was Direct Admin I'm confident we have covered that with the new firewall. If it was Joomla then I'm still worried.
