Is it possible to install Awstats for site statistics.
It is recommended for use with Joomla.

Not sure about Awstats. Webaliser stats are built into Direct Admin. You may have already looked at that but if not ...
On the DA control panel in the 'Your Account' section goto Site Summary / Statistics / Logs then near the top of that page you'll see 'Domain Webalizer Stats'. Click on your domain name just under that title for a summary, then on each individual month for details.
If there's enough in there to give you what you want I'd prefer to stick with that obviously as it's it's already integrated and tested. If there's something important that it doesn't show but Awstats would I'll look into it. Not sure what effect it might have trying to run 2 sets of stats side by side.

I have used awstats before but some time ago and I am not sure what it has over and above webalizer.
But the issue here as usual is Joomla, there are a few stats addons for Joomla but there are recommended that you don't use them, I have tried and it kills the site.
I have tried looking round for something that can be used specifically for Joomla and the two I came up with have been Awstats and Google.
I will look into the google one later.
Awstats uses the apache log file probably the same as webalizer.
Webalizer does give quite a lot of information, but it doesn't show the information that I need. It gives the top url as / , whicj unfortunately is not very informative.
Awstats is supposed to pick this up properly, but not sure.
I am going to try and run in on my test system as its been a while since I used it to see if it can run without any issues.
I wanted to ask for permission as well before I started to add anything.
Thanks

If you have a browse to check if there are any security issues with it first I'm happy enough for you to add Awstats yourself. Appreciate you checking.
If you do that successfully and it gives you useful info on your Joomla site you might add a 'How to' in the appropriate section for other Joomla users.

Paul
Would it be possible to get the log files downloaded. I believe in the past that we had a separate server that we copied the log files to and ran awstats. I may get round it this way and then just upload the process files to the awstats directory.
I would then have an htaccess file to only allow users that I specify to access them.

Getting over my head now Scott. I can ask the server guys the question, but first can you have a look at the backed up log files on your domain and see if that's what you're after?
Those are also on the Site Summary / Statistics / Logs page - there's a link at the very top.

Can't get access to those at the moment, in work.
